Born in Spokane, Washington, Kellen decided to move to Brooklyn just a week after graduating early from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon back in December of 2019. Kellen’s interest in writing growing up fell well behind his fascination with politics and environmental issues.
After earning a scholarship to attend an environmental research camp in Glacier National Park near the end of high school, Kellen attended Willamette University, where he majored in environmental science and politics. At Willamette he worked simultaneously as an editor for the student newspaper, student-athlete representative for the cross-country and track teams, and a senator in student government.
Through his membership amongst various communities and role at the student newspaper, Kellen quickly found that his passion didn’t lie within trying to seek change through public policy, but lied in the communication of ideas across a wide-array of audiences. This passion for communication is what drove him to report for Pamplin Media Group and to obtain his master’s in journalism in NYC.
Kellen also is a running coach at Mile High Run Club in Manhattan.
